Good evening! It's my first time posting.
I'm pretty excited as I'm just getting started growing cacti. I ordered seeds for Echinocereus boyce-thompsonii, Ferocactus schwarzii and wislizenii and Stenocereus thurberi. Since I learned that Ferocactus enjoys temps above 70 degrees and its currently full blown winter in Illinois I decided to only attempt propagating Echinocereus and Stenocereus. I'll wait until summer for the others.
I'll admit that I probably didn't think it through very well but, I didn't label which was which. It's been just over a week and I am thrilled that I already have about six sprouts. However, I don't know what I'm looking at. Could anyone tell me if Echinocereus or Stenocereus are known to be fast growers?
I've attached pictures.
If I can't puzzle it out I am happy to just be surprised in a few months!
Thanks - Frank

My echinocereus seedlings at a lil under 6 months
I can't really speak on their speed of growth because I'm just beginning myself but I'm not unhappy with the results.

Thanks Teo
Awesome link
Re: I lost track
The seedlings on the first photo look more to be of Stenocereus. These are possible fast growers.
Echinocereus seedlings look smaller, rounded and grow slower like other ball-shaped cacti.

If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.

Thanks for the replies. Correct! It is vermiculite that is mixed into the peat and then also scattered on the top of the growing medium.
It has been about a month and the Stenocereus have fattened up. I've had one Echinocereus sprout so I'm giving it all the love I can muster.
Any idea how long they should stay under plastic and the frequency of watering at this point?

If the baggie is sealed - keep it most or wet till grown enough to survive outside, typically 2 - 3 months but it depends on conditions. If uncovered -- let it dry out for days or two (at least the surface) before to add water again.
