Why is my seedling red?
This is the Mammillaria luethyi seedling that germinated yesterday.
It's in a plastic bag now. And it's under 15W light.
Can I keep it as it is?

Close the shower curtain! How embarrassing ! Why really red? IDK...but I'd guess...genetics.

Maybe light is a bit strong.

Re: Why is my seedling red?
Cactus seedlings can be red, purple, or brown for 4 main reasons:
1). Strong light. Most cactus seedlings need less light than adult plants. That grows shadowed on one side buy a rock, a nurse plant, or other seedlings.
2). Inadequate water. Most Cactus seedlings need more water than adult plants.
3). Genetics. Sometimes certain varieties of cactus develop red pigment from the get-go, this is true with some Gymnocalycium varieties.
4). Normal growth. In some genera such as Ariocarpus many seedlings are frequently red or brown to begin with but become green in later years.

Congrats on just getting your luethyi seeds to germinate.

I think it's the genetics and light intensity that's going on here
