What Is Best Way to Move Large Cactus?

Post by pone »

Is there a tool that would help to hold a cactus with thorns while moving it? What is the best technique? I could use some kind of thick mat or covering, but I worry if it is a carpet that the thorns would get caught in the carpet and then come back to bite you later when you handle the carpet. Maybe there is a thick wrapping material that is impervious to being penetrated that could be wrapped around the cactus before removing it from the earth? If there is a specific product, could you link to the purchase page?

For a barrel cactus, styrofoam corners seem like a great solution. For a long skinny cholla cactus, I am going to try a cargo net and tie that to a long pole.
