Buddha’s Temple

Post by Hexagonal »

Hello! Does anyone know if this is normal for the bottom leaves of this plant to be turning brown like this? I cannot find any online images where this looks normal. I suspect it needs to be repotted or that the soil is too wet? Thanks!

Either ways, I'd take it out of that soil. Could be rot setting in, so you can check the roots to start. If needed you could cut off the healthy part and reroot it. It doesn't look like it's been too dry, in that soil. So if you repot better to add much more gritty stuff.

Ok, so I would give it a clean cut just above the brown?
Should it go into soil immediately or sit out to dry like a cutting? Thanks!

Here's some info from llifle: http://www.llifle.com/Encyclopedia/SUCC ... the%20ends.

Cultivation and Propagation: Of easy cultivation, they will require a free draining compost and good light to keep the plants compact and encourage leaf colour and flowering, but the white pruinose leaves coatings in our collection sometime is not very intense and is best to avoid to expose our plant to direct sun in summer. Morning sun only . Needs regular water in the growing season, but reduce watering during winter month , fairly drought tolerant elsewhere. After growing for several years tend to become untidy, and should be cut very short or restarted from cuttings. Crassulas are sensitive to mealybugs.
Propagation: Stem cuttings

I’ll try a few days of brighter sun (barring rainy days) and see if it looks any better before cutting. Thanks!

I'd check the roots first, perhaps they are fine and not rotting, before cutting it. Also, weakened plants, or cuttings for that do not take full sun at all. Better bright but out direct sun until fully recovered.
If you cut, let it dry for a few days or so, I think they can be planted after that, but wait until it starts rooting before watering. I think it takes a few weeks.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I have had bad luck just separating offshoots from other succulents - so the idea of cutting this one was making me uneasy.
