Propagation of Nananthus seeds.
I recently harvested some seed pods from my nananthus. Ive never grown any cacti/succulents from seed before so im just trying it out. i collected the seeds on the 23/7/2020, i noticed growth on the 28/7/2020. it took me about 2 hours to harvest all the seeds from their pods haha.

Re: Propagation of Nananthus seeds.
i totally forgot to update the progress of the seedlings so here they are. in my opinion they are rather fast growing compared to other succulents. in about a month they are putting out the "real leaves". such lovely plants to grow.

Re: Propagation of Nananthus seeds.
i am using the bagging method to sow the seeds. I find it easier, at least for me
below is the setup I'm using to grow the seeds along with some lithops, dinteranthus, pleiospilos nelii, lapidaria and a few succulents and cacti

Well done, looks like you are getting great results.
Mesembs can seem very easy , quick and satisfying from seed compared to cacti.

If you look closely, some of them have fallen over due to weak stems, which happens when you leave them in the baggie too long. I explained that in another thread about the same seedlings: http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/viewtop ... 12&t=45278
It would be good to see how they're doing now.

Re: Propagation of Nananthus seeds.
Hello everyone, its been sometime since Ive done an update regarding my nananthus seedlings. most of them have reached a decent size but some still remain as small as a grain of rice. Must be because i threw about a hundred plus seeds into a 4inch pot . Anyways below are some pictures of them on the (30th September) and (20th October).

- this was taken on the 30th September, most of them have achieved their 2nd pair of leaves.

- fastest grower but the size was not the biggest. its achieved its 4th pair of leaves. (30th September)

- decided to replant all of them because a lot of them were struggling to grow ( this picture was taken today (20/10/2020) )

- this one is the smallest one that i have, the other smaller ones died because i started to water them less. its size is about 1/4 of an inch and its only recently achieved its 2nd pair of leaves.(20/20/20)

- one of the bigger ones, about 2 inch in size and already has two growing points. its reached its 5/6th pair of leaves (20/10/2020)

They are doing okay so far haha. just had to slowly reduce the watering. Ive found that once every 3 days for now seems fine. I didn't water them for a week and then went limp haha. for the smaller ones i still water them everyday, at least until the reach a decent size.

Re: Propagation of Nananthus seeds.
thank you very much. i thought they were gonna be hard but they are much easier to grow from seeds than i thought. also i never expected them to be this fast haha.esp_imaging wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2020 9:22 am Well done, looks like you are getting great results.

Re: Propagation of Nananthus seeds.
i thought the growing method were the same as lithops but was terribly wrong, i only took them out after 3 weeks after someone told me that they would elongate and break easily if kept too long in a humid environment. thankfully my nananthus didn't suffer too much but my pleiospilos nelii on the other hand, lets not talk about thatgreenknight wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 12:56 am If you look closely, some of them have fallen over due to weak stems, which happens when you leave them in the baggie too long. Re: Propagation of Nananthus seeds.
They're looking great! Glad to see they came through all right.
I learned that lesson the hard way, myself - lost a lot of nice seedlings. I know just how you feel, very pleased that I was able to help you avoid even worse losses.
