Split rock dying..what is it?

Does anybody know what happened to this plant?
It' not mine...I gifted it to a friend about a month ago. The store repotted it for me. She kept it in strong light but not full sun. Didn't water it until today. She says it's been like this for 10 days.
Is it rot? Can it be saved? And why did it happen?
I'd love to know, I have one too and don't want this to happen.

Looks dead to me. Could have dried up or the potting mix is bad and caused it to rot

It's gone. Pleiospilos nelii does not like repotting, from my experience.
