How to sow seeds of Tephrocactus molinensis and geometricus?

Post by yonnoy »

Hello,

I have some seeds of Tephrocactus molinensis and Tephrocactus geometricus. I have read these recomendations to sow them:
- Use acid to scarify them.
- Put the seeds 48 hours in warm water before sowing them.
- Sand the surface of the seeds.

Do you know which of those recommendations are the correct, or do you have others?

I had zero % germination when I tried Tephrocactus geometricus seeds.

If you don't get germination, drying the pot out for a few weeks then rewetting is another technique to use. Patience is recommended too!

I have had some success, I would say 10%... Using a sharp blade I cut out part of the seed (but without reaching and injuring the embryo). This helps water to get inside the seed.
