brown leaves on my aloe

Post by stevem44 »

Hi,
The leaves on my aloe (I think) have begun to turn brown. I recently transplanted it, so the soil is good and I am fairly certain that I have not overwatered it. I have also had this problem with some Haworthia. Any suggestions to alleviate this situation would be appreciated. Thanks

The oldest leaves will always die eventually, the plant re-absorbs the water and nutrients in them. The stress of re-potting may have sped the process. Just remove them once they've dried up.

Looks like an Aloe hybrid to me, there are many of them: https://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/2921

Underwatering will cause older leaves on Aloes to dry up.
Aloe aristata (and some hybrids of it - yours may be a hybrid) survives outdoors year round in the UK with little or no rain protection. If it's in very well-drained soil, it can take a lot of water.

It does look like its underwatered, the way the leaves are cupping and curling. If it's had enough time for the roots to heal since it was transplanted, a week or more, give it a good soaking.
