Huernia

Post by HeidiL »

Are there any experts on Huernias here? A friend gave me this one who is from at mothergot from her aunt many years ago. And the aunt had had it for ages, but none of them knew the name.

I would agree, Orbea variegata. The plant got an RHS Award of Garden Merit in 1993.

Interesting.
It is also interesting that it has found its way to the west of Norway at least 50 years ago. And now ine of its offspring is on my windowsill in the south est of Norway. I love plants with a history :)

Orbea variegata was first cultivated in Europe before 1727 by Richard Bradley at Cambridge University. Linnaeus named it Stapelia variegata in 1753. I don't know if he had a plant at Uppsala.
