Post by Mrs.Green »

Found this blog interesting, nothing about cacti as far as I have seen but if you are interested in plants in general..

I do love that blog, always surprising new facts about strange plants. Though the author gets in a muddle with the non-botanical science sometimes.

If you search for "succulent" there are several articles. Like this one about an epiphytic cactus that has buoyant seeds spread during floods in the Amazon. https://www.indefenseofplants.com/blog/ ... the-amazon

Others of my favourite blogs:

http://novataxa.blogspot.com New species descriptions of all sorts of plants, fungi and animals. Very frequently updated and always surprising with new things. Do a search for "Corybas" for some strange orchids. Though strange is, perhaps, normal for orchids. The blogger puts the family on for everything so it is easy to search for your interests. I just visit every few days and scroll through the frogs, spiders [edited to add geckos, gosh, there are a lot of species of geckos] and fish until I get to the good stuff.

https://www.kew.org/science/read-and-watch Kew Gardens blogs. Enough said.

https://dias-com-arvores.blogspot.com Portuguese botanical travellers. Mostly Portugal, Canary Islands and Madeira from what I remember. Almost intelligible with my knowledge of Spanish but I usually use the translate facility.

https://botanyphoto.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca I used to love contributing comments to this one. They have not updated since April 2020 for some reason. It was never every day. The search is at the top of the page and looks like you are going to search the University. Again, you can search by family, genus or any keyword. It is worth opening the photos in a new window to really appreciate them. https://botanyphoto.botanicalgarden.ubc ... ea-grandis

https://www.botany.one If you want to be bewildered by science until you find something you almost understand.

That epiphytic cactus is now world-famous as Cambridge University Botanic Garden had theirs flowering on a webcam. With the unfortunately common name of moonflower, used of many different plants. A better translation of the botanical name would be mooncandle. Perhaps the "clingy mooncactus" or just "treehugger" or the "splendid treehugger"?
