Kalanchoe Oak leaf - cold damage?

Post by Hero878 »

It was rather cold last night about -1 deg C outside, I keep my Kalanchoe in the porch which is not heated. It might have been about 5 degC in there.
It looked fine this morning when I decided to move the plant into the warm living room.
But literally a few hours later I noticed some of the healthy leaves had started to shrivel up.
I'm not sure is his is cold damage or damage from moving the plant from a cold place to a warm place suddenly. And it happened so quickly!

Any ideas?

Cold damage often takes some time to appear
Los Angeles, California (USA)

Try to avoid sharp rises or falls in temperature. It can be the rapid thawing that does more damage than the cold.

Thank you both much appreciated. I didn't realise a rapid change in temperature could be so detrimental. Sounds like thats what caused it to shrivel in a matter of hours.

It doesn't look too severe, wait a while and see what recovers - or dies.

I agree about avoiding sharp temperature changes. Also, don't let the sun hit any frozen plant.
