Caro amigos,
I was given this cactus by a friend who had it growing, somewhat neglected in a corner of his greenhouse. His passion is Passiflora, but on a visit to Merida, Venezuela in 1994, he found it in a valley that was being filled with trash and brought a piece back to England. It grew and then flopped over and now has several offsets growing along an old horizontal stem. It has never flowered. I think it’ a Parodia, maybe leninghausii, but my own leninghausii has spines that are more golden and longer. Parodia rechensis or haselbergii also seem possible. Maybe a hybrid? Would it be native to Venezuela or a discarded pot plant? Since it’s very ungainly, I plan to split the plant into three by detaching the conjoined pair of offsets nearest in the picture which have their own roots, then cut off 3 inches of the old stem with roots and plant that, hoping it will grow offsets, and then try to root the rest of the stem which has one large and several small offsets. Any comments? Thanks, and best wishes.

Re: Venezuelan Parodia?
Pure Eriocactus leninghausii IMHO.
Native from South Brazil (Rio Grande Do Sul).

Parodia (Notocactus or Brasiliparodia) rechensis is a small plant. I agree P. leninghausii is the most likely and is widely grown around the world.
