Hello Fellow Cacti Lovers-

Like many people last year during the pandemic, turned to gardening to spend their time (and not mention money) to free themselves from the shut down and my wife focused on succulents and cacti. Helping her with research and what she should add to her collection, we found this picture of what looks like dirty, grungie looking Echinocactus grusonii, but i don't think it is. Was wondering if you folks know what it is :?: :?: :?:

Thanks for reading and MASS THANKS for any info on it.

Here are two pics of Mr. Grungie and two group shots:

Very interesting case. Looks not like true grusonii imho. Can you show bigger picture an try to take off that dried flowers/buds and show them also.

Painted or oxidized spines? These look like spines of some other Echinocactus, lake some young platyacanthus...

Not sure of that, maybe the humidity is affecting them? The weird thing is that the crown looks normal, so possibly they were recently planted there and they are in the process of recovering.

Looking at the picture it appears even the plants below the barrels look like they are dried out. Maybe major sun damage? All the plants in the picture look pretty beat. The body of one looks green still. The overall picture is not sharp enough to see what condition the plants are really in. If these don't belong to you, and you don't have any idea where they are located, can I ask why? Since the good one is in a pot and the other is sitting in paper, are thinking of buying these?

Those pics were grabbed off the web as the wife and I were looking for cacti to add to our collection.

Would like to gather more info about them to see if we can care for them properly. But to me, they would probably require the same care as the normal golden barrel cactus.
