Euphorbia decaryi flower/cyathium?

This guy has responded nicely to my recently installed and fairly antique greenhouse. Have never seen growths like this and would like to think its happy enough to wanna bang, so to speak. The cute double headed buds at 6 and the seemingly partially opened structure at 2. Similar arrangement on the other stem which is doing this with a double headed arrangement at 6 o'clock and a single larger bud at 1-2 o clock (relative to meristem).

The "buds" are now more like small crab claws opening. Cute as hell.

Nice RorBurg56. Glad to find someone else growing Madagascar Euphorbia's!!! I just repotted all of my Madagascar Euphorbias about 3 months ago. I was really anxious about them that they would not grow for me. First time repotting. But, they are all growing now and flowering. Doing really well. I have them outdoors and they get sun till about noon when they are in shade. I hope you don't mind me posting some shots of some of my plants.

Here is my E. decaryi ssp. decaryi in April after I took it out of the pot and washed off all of the potting mix. It was flowering then.

Gorgeous plants jerry and formidable roots, congrats :).
Malagasy flora generally has me captivated at the moment but all the tuberous euphorb varieties definitely are some of the most charming. Im looking for cylindrifolia and tulearensis at the moment but also the different varients of decaryi are themselves quite fascinating. its interesting how visible the veins on leaf undersides are for your first plant, the leaves also look much flatter and wider than ive seen in most examples of this species online.
Have to go for now but thanks for a peek at your guys :)
Rory.

Rory

I took photos of my plants potted and growing on July 7, 2021 and it has taken me till now to get them organized and ready to post. They are growing!!! I have never re-potted these plants before and treated them like a cacti and let them dry out. Mine were dry over two weeks before repotting. I have potted them in a very high mineral content mix with maybe only 15% organic material. It is inert. I have been watering in this almost 95F weather every other day, if it has not rained on them. Some of these plants date back to 2015 under my care/neglect.

And as I am trying to resize the photos, I am having difficulty naming the files. Something on my computer is not working correctly. I'll have to just post one plant for now.

Very impressed and intrigued by some of the leaf textures, again especially the decaryi decaryi in the first set, mine seems closest to the spirosticha in the last set, much more tightly crimped, thicker and with no visible venation. Ive also only seen examples of E ambovoensis with large seemingly flat leaves, nothing like the greatly reduced leaves on your plant. How old are these?
I bought mine about 4 years ago as a rare find in a garden center and its only recieved the one repot since then. For most of its time with me it grew very slowly but steadily inside pausing occasionally but not shedding leaves. its really burst on now I have a greenhouse and im seeing alot of branches emerge against the sides of the pot. Im tempted to repot just because im sure I could do a much better job of substate now but its also pretty happy at the moment and it can always wait a little longer etc..

Good to hear your repottings have been successfull!

was just checking the conversion and its actually been averaging close to that temperature in my tiny 8*6, roughly 82-87F. Its been challenging to figure out the best fan configuration to keep it safe for growth and there has been many frustrated days trying to fit offbrand vents but its been the hottest day so far and everything seems well controlled. I have a modest collection of other Euphorbia, mostly mainland species as well as an array of various cacti, some pachypodium, hoodia and orbea. Mostly everything is thriving and lots of the Euphorbs are flowering, along with some gymnos. Only the Orbeas and some Euphorbia leucodendron seem uncomfortable, though the former are finally pushing out offsets, probably going to take the latter inside tonight to have a closer look at the roots, i fear their substrate may be a bit too drying.

Rory, you ask me how old these plants are. I really don't remember. I have dates on photos of them dated Feb 12, 2015. Pretty sure I had them before that. Most likely bought them at the Spring auction and show of the Connecticut Cactus and Succulent Society.

Here is E. decaryi decaryi 2/12/15:

Look what I found in an ordinary garden center, planted in peat ! Not sure if it's one plant or a crowd, but I'll soon find out whilst repotting. Not the right season but better it gets done.

Great find Jangaudi!! I know I bought at least one E. decaryi var spirosticha at a Garden Center in the Philadelphia suburbs over 15 years ago. They know they have a customer base that looks for more exotic cacti and succulents. There is an active club down there, and there is the Philadelphia Flower Show to enter. They always have a really nice display-competition of cacti and succulents.

Hi Rory and Jangaudi. Are you guys still active here? Any updates on your plants?
