Looking great! I would gently nestle the seedlings with exposed roots between the rocks to keep them from drying out.

Some seeds are still germinating in large planter... I also randomly placed a single lopho williamsii that germinated into a 1.5L pot so that the roots will roam free and I won’t need to repot for years hopefully. Overkill but that’s fine

Two lopho williamsii germinated very low in the pot I wonder how long they will survive. Also new sprout on the a Dioscorea Elephantipes but sadly lost another seedling. Now have 3 seedlings

Interestingly a variegated lopho next to a normal lopho in the same conditions however look very different as if the variegated is not getting enough sun and the normal lopho is getting too much. There is slower growth in the variegated lopho as is expected however I like these are coming. Took around 3 months for me to be certain that the light lopho was indeed variegated as I just assumed it was very resilient to sunlight. These were just mass sown normal seeds

I managed to kill my Dioscorea seedlings.

I repotted all my seedlings into a slightly more grit/rock soil mix. Organized the seedlings into rows by species and have a separate pot of around 50+ stranglers that didn’t develop much. Roughy count is 50ish ariocarpus, 80ish lophophora, and 100+ astrophytum in the large planter.

I also started 3 small pots of trichocereus and lopho williamsii. Each have around 20 seedlings

I took some soil from an old pot I leave in sun to dry completely and randomly found this tap root which could only be Discorea elephantipes. I have a second chance and will rarely water this since it survived being completely ignored for a few months now

I just read through your entire thread. I see you sowed the seeds in a 70/30 gravel/soil mix. I assume you scattered the seeds on the top of your pots/planters when first sowing. Correct? The photos later on show a coarse top of gravel with your seeds germinating in it. I assume the soil washed down and out of the pot as you watered. Correct?

You mentioned you planned on adding more soil later on as the soil washed out. Have you done this, and how are you going to do it/or did you do it?

Curious question: why did you mix your seeds between genera when sowing? I guess I'm a stickler for keeping ID if I have it. I would have sown in separate pots.

I bought two Frailea parviflora from Miles2Go last spring here in the US. They already had seeds on the plants. When I tried to remove the seed capsule, it broke and spilled seeds down into the pot. I checked them recently, and some of the seedlings are still alive. No humidity bag at all ever.

Yes the soil washes down a bit thru the cracks of the rocks. I sowed the seeds on top of the mix but I placed a very thin layer of topsoil so that the seeds didn't fall thru the cracks but they did a bit had some seedlings very stretched body due to going a bit deep.

I did this by just sprinkling the dry top soil over everything as evenly as possible then I watered everything so the seedlings would be exposed. The soil didn't exactly washout since I stopped using excess water since they are seedlings roots didn't reach water so would just waste. Each watering the soil does go downwards a bit though. With my soil being very clay heavy I thought it would be an issue but haven't noticed any issues since not much soil to start.

This sowing was almost exclusively mixed seed packs so I just mixed everything for the sack of it. I did sow in separate pots a few astrophytum red flower and super kabuto and such but most everything is unknown sp so didn't mind it. Next sowing I do plan on keeping everything as separate/labeled as possible since I will be getting specific species.

Yea Frailea seem to be very easy to cultivate given enough moisture. Most seedlings really. Read a thread here about a guy that kepts a planter with his frailea and would just toss the seeds or let them fall on their own and his planter was loaded.

I am surprised at how the Discorea survived since the pot was completely ignored but I guess nature finds a way.

Yea saw an older post you offering seeds but then at the end state that none available because they all died

Another cactus that seem do do well with parents as nurse plants to help germinate is Epithelantha sp. … in reality all cacti are like this but some seem to do amazingly well without any help since we water much more often then in nature while other seeds even with help and fresh seeds have some trouble

So here are the seedlings as yearlings.

They look great! The Astrophytum are especially coming along nicely.

Easier to just put a ruler lol but since I leave the coins in place its a nice reference for size.
