if I understood this right, the extract form this journal is from 1854-1873.

To be a little more precise, it comes from the 1856 issue of
The Horticulturist and Journal Of Rural Art and Rural Taste, Volume 11 (or New Series Volume VI), pages 28-30. Published in Philadelphia, USA. I could not find the
Gardeners' Chronicle article to which it refers.
