Help on a cactus ID

Post by MrMatt »

Seen at Sandoval county New Mexico 1900m elevation pinon/juniper habitat. There were a number of them, the one images was about 10cm. Just curious what it is.

It looks like a (partly buried) Mammillaria longimamma but according llifle and cactus.art.biz it should occur in Hidalgo, Mexico area?

Thanks teo, I was thinking a Mammillaria of some sort. The location this was found is pretty far displaced from Hidalgo. Could it be Mammillaria wrightii? I've seen those in northern NM, just not used to seeing them so buried I suppose.

If the tubercles are grooved on the upper surface it could be Coryphantha (Escobaria) missouriensis as that comes from Sandoval?
