Not long ago I came across Schlumbergera ‘Enigma’ ( online, not IRL). Fond of Schlumbergeras as I am, this plant got me interested. Anyone here who has this plant and would share some photos? Found one for sale on Etsy but the price put me off.. about 55 €. Is it really that rare?
This is the ‘Enigma’ I am referring to ; https://cactus-epiphytes.eu/z_page-schl ... or-06.html

Looks like a mutant if not a hybrid.
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.

Re: Schlumbergera ‘Enigma’
I think it's a mutant. If it was a hybrid, I don't think the flowers would be so oddly shaped.
Re: Schlumbergera ‘Enigma’
How strange. You see the monstrose Cereus with normal flowers, now here's a cactus with normal stems and monstrose flowers
I wonder what the nature of this is. Floral meristems (I understand) start as vegetative meristems. So there's either a pathology in the meristem that only manifests in the flowers, or something genetic is happening. I think genetic mutations are not likely as a cause. My understanding is different genes control the growth of different parts of the flower. To me, it's unlikely there were many simultaneous mutations that are causing the pathologies to many part of the flower. The other genetic possibility is chromone duplication. I don't know much about chromosone duplication, but I understand it can cause many changes in a single stroke

Etsy is the place to shop if you want to pay the highest price possible for a plant imo

Re: Schlumbergera ‘Enigma’
Thank you Shane Yes, it’s strange and interesting. The plant is sterile since there is no pistil in the flowers. Whatever it’s origin, it’s on my wishlist. Not so much for the flowers but I like the unusual form of the stem segments.
I have never bought anything from Etsy, just windowshopping but the prices seems a bit stiff yes..
