I thought these were Consolea rubescens, but they might be some other Consolea

This was sold to me as C rubescens.

This one was just Consolea species.

I'm having trouble finding decent pictures to confirm.

I forgot to add: the the first cactus pictured came from a reputable supplier based in Victoria. It had no spines on it until I placed it in full Australian sun. Since then the new growth has grown spines.

I bought it along with a grapefruit sized C Gigantea, and both are the most I've ever paid for a cactus. Not much, just A$60 each, but it is the most.

In the Britton & Rose book Consolea is listed as Opuntia. I took a photo of a text on how to identify them using the spines. I hope that helps.
