Coryphantha identification

Post by mmcavall »

Coryphanthas are difficult to identify? Or its only me? Comparing the pictures from the cactiguide page to my plants I wasn't able to id any of my the Coryphantas that are in bloom.
Maybe someone can help me.

I guess that means it's not just you. I agree, they can be hard to tell apart.

I am not experienced enough with these plants to identify them confidently beyond genus name. From what I read, these can be difficult to ID because they go through various morphological changes as the plants age and there is variability in regards with the presence of central spines of the same species, even from plants of the same locality. Dicht and Lüthy's Coryphanta book has a key you can try using to ID your plants, but I don't know how helpful it'll be for plants in cultivation.

Here's a link (I'm not sure where the copyright for this stands, but I can remove the link if necessary):

Hello everyone, thanks very much for all replies. I didn't had time to look in details the names and links suggested, but I'll certainly do that and come back here later.
Mr Xeric thank you very much for the link for the book, I have already saved it and you can delete your post if you feel more confortable. I like very much this kind of books and I'll use it for sure.

#2 looks like Coryphantha pycnacantha (andreae).
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.
