Update! With guidance from this forum I took a top cut of my M microhelia (or M microheliopsis) on April 28, 2022. I potted it on May 5. I observed roots on July 6. Today January 24, 2023 it blossomed. This plant previouly blossomed before Feb 10, 2021 and by Feb 11, 2022. I would say it appears to be right on schedule despite the surgery. Thanks all for a very successful first effort.

Did you toss the bottom part? You were saying you might.

Yes Jerry. After I observed the bottom start multiple buds, I realized that it would continue to grow, but due to scarce space I reluctantly tossed it. Since then I have picked up a couple of other small cacti of different species, but when It comes time for larger pots, I will probbably have to cull again. Space limitations discipline my urges.

No problem with tossing. Just wondered.
