From Llifle (that is not 100% reliable), for E. tulearensis :

"Caudex exposure: The remarkable tuberous rootstock (caudex) is usually raised above the soil line so that this can be seen and more readily appreciated. The plants raised from cuttings produce a bunch of tangled tuberose roots, while seed raised plants produce a more rounded tuber with age. For best results the tuber must be exposed only when plans become mature enough, usually after several years (8-12 or more years) of underground growth, as the exposed caudex will no longer increase in size once it has been lifted above the soil line. In very old plants, the tuber can achieve massive proportions, so keep a plant for many years to grow an unusually large caudex."

Mine is aprox. 5 years old and is buried (only the leaves appear). I transplanted it once and was amazed with the size of the caudex, so I buried it again. I'll show you my plant when possible.

I didn't realize E. tulearensis developed a Caudex. I'll have to make sure mine is buried. I also need to ask if it was grown from seed or a cutting.

Awesome tip! As soon as gloomy weather goes away and we have sunshine, I will repot it to bury the caudex. Thanks a lot for sharing this.

So, if the caudex area has been lifted for a time, can it be buried again and continue to get bigger? How long is that time? That is, the time the caudex area has been exposed to the air.

Yeah...not sure it is a good idea to re-bury it again...I think it is risky.

G'day abhikjha,
coryphantha elephantidens cv zougemaru
Zougemaru is just Japanese name for elephantidens.
This means the name of your cactus is coryphantha elephantidens cv elephantidens.
Almost all cactus have Japanese names.

Zougemaru means "a round cactus with spines like ivory".

There is a cultivar of elephantidens which has very short spines but it is very different from your cactus.
