No postage due? Both envelopes had intact seeds? I am surprised. I would have thought the plain padded envelope would have had 100% smashed seeds. Go figure.

Small padded envelopes like the ones you sent are hit or miss mostly they get through without damage but not always so I switched to CD size.

And I mail them in the package Bins with the boxes at the post office . If you take them to customer service they always try and bend them , must be some rule, and they charge more.

I have to look for the CD size to see what you are talking about. But I bought 25 of those padded envelopes.

We ship a lot of seed
and it's a huge dilemma for shipping costs

You would think you can just ship them like a letter, and at the same cost
But the seeds will be crushed, almost guaranteed

So you need a padded envelope at the minimum, which costs a lot more than a letter to ship, near $8
And the Padded envelopes cost near a $1
So you have to include that cost

If you have a lot of seed packets in your order, then you need a small box

So the moral of the story is: Shipping Seeds Will Cost a lot more than you think

Buy in Bulk save money I mean who couldn't use 200 CD bubble mailers :D The little mailers you bought will work just make sure they don't go into a letter box but a package bin instead.

What about 'coin holder capsules clear' ? Come in various diameters. Sold on Amazon, Ebay. They can be tricky to use - put seeds into wrong half and seeds on the rim will be crushed when closed (been there, done that).

I ended up cutting a rectangle a little bigger than a glassine seed envelope out of a padded envelope, straight through. I have cut two in an envelope to be able to ship more than one glassine envelope. I then covered over one side with an Index Card and taped it onto the outside of the envelope. Then, on the underside of the Index Card I taped it to the edges of the bubble wrap so glassine envelopes would not slip between the bubble wrap and the index card. Now I am left with an envelope with a rectangular hole or two. I place the glassine envelopes into the pockets and cover it over with another Index Card. I ship them as First Class Large Envelopes requesting Hand Cancellation. Usually less than $2.00 to ship. Last cost $1.66 for less than an ounce.

That's more effort than any seller I've dealt with would do :D Typically sellers put the ziplock seed pack between two thin pieces of bubble sheet (sometimes just one side), tape the ends and hope for the best. Gets through the post most times - especially when seeds are small. I'll keep your technique in mind. I was surprised the corrugated cardboard cut-out didn't work for you (never tried it myself). I've had CD's sent by international mail and only those packed in sticky corrugated cardboard survive the trip.

The cardboard got crushed between rollers in the postal machinery. The bubble wrap is stronger. Seeds between the bubble wrap get crushed.
