Are these both san pedro cacti?

Post by Mrs.cactus »

I have these two what I believe to be san pedro cacti but I wonder why they seem so different? One is more flat and the other one is more plump? Different varieties?
They have the same exposure to the sun, same care etc

Please help!

IMHO, I think both of them are possible San Pedro (Trichocereus/Echinopsis pachanoi), but from the stems you can see that the growing conditions wasn't consistent (possible water and light), that's why there are different growth rates at different period. Also the first one has some damaged areas affected its growth. Even same species can have a bit of variations.
The other things is that like most of the Trichocereus this day, a lot of hybrids or cross pollinated plants, so sometime unless you get from the reliable source, it is very difficult to differentiate the possible hybridization and variations.
