Uknown Gymnocalycium

Post by Salazar »

Good day

A while back I tried to have this plant identified but there didn't seem to be any conclusion so I thought why not give it another shot.

I still believe it to be some form of G.anisitsii because the flowers are very similar to a plant I have though other names have been proposed.

This time I've included flowers pictures though they're not from my plant.

I spent some time on Llifle for you and it may be Gymnocalycium ubelmannianum . All white flower with similar spine structure. Your picture do not show the flowers fully open. So it is a guess.

I disagree, the stem structure is quite different, and the flowers differ quite a bit too. The pollen of the unknown is grey to greyish yellow though it may not be obvious from the pictures. And the anther is deeper inside compared to G. uebelmannianum.

I also may have a clue to it's identity. Here it's often called Gymnocalycium anisitsii cv.Centipede or simply Gymnocalycium cv.Centipede.

I don't know if this is just some made up common name sellers use to market the plant or an actual cultivar name. It is also unknown to me if this is an actual cultivar, a hybrid and a wild variety.
