..and a Mammilaria again

Post by Mrs.Green »

Going trough a lot of pics on Mammilarianet’s species section, I am cross-eyed but unfortunately not any wiser about the ID on this plant. It could possibly be this or that or something completely different. The plant is in a 10 cm. pot and is about 15 cm.tall.

Gorgeous species - Mammillaria pringlei 👍 congratulations! :)
Here's my small younger (flowering now, but spines cover flowers) one grown about 9 months outdoors in full sun. ;)
Last october it was more tiny and spineless than yours.

Thank you very much all of you 😊 Anttisepp; Beautiful plant and great spines! The poor spination on my specimen can’t be blaimed on me, I have only had it for a couple of weeks.

There's considerable genetic variation to start with - then, as Llifle says, "It needs full sun, avoiding only the harshest summer sun." I don't worry about the sun being too hot unless it gets up to about 35C.

Hi Greenknight,
don't worry about 35°C -- my M.rh.prinley (freshly corrected name! :-) how come?! ) gets about 40°C here without too much shade after 13h and without cooking. They just need some time to get adjusted at the begin of summer as usual and they love it.
And yes, Mrs.Green, I agree with the name. Nice little plant, might flower all year round. Just needs a therapist -- yellow spines, pink flowers.

Thank you Greenknight, hopefully there will be a little more sun here next year..This year I could have started a rice field in the garden, if the temperature was a bit above average 10-15 degrees celsius. This was the wettest summer I can remember, I wouldn’t be that surprised if I found fish on the lawn..

Nactcrab; Thank you. Ah, so you too is colour sensitive ☺️ I guess you don’t dress in red and pink at he same time either..😣 I very much doubt it will bloom year round here. In fact I would have been a little worried if it bloomed midwinter here. Very short days and low temperatures.

Mine doesn't produce flowers in winter, it begins to bloom when the weather warms up and continues all summer into autumn. The last flowers of the season persist into December. They do like warmth, not surprising as it's a Mexican species.

Well, I admit: The M.rh.pringley is the one Mamm which will stay in the living room during winter. I started that years ago before I learned that a cool winter is essential vor Mamms to stay healthy and flower. But it hadn't read the manual either.
So we continue with warm winters & a bit of flowers all year round.
Splendid that it is Mexican & thus a fan of that climate. Interesting detail.
