My Granny's Aloe?

Post by nachtkrabb »

Hi everybody,
there is another Aloe for which I am looking for a name. This is the Aloe of my grandmother who died about 12years ago.
I would be glad to put finally a name on that plant.
Thank you says

Thank you anttisepp, sounds good.

What is rather funny: llifle writes
Aloe saponaria (W.T.Aiton) Haw.
Accepted Scientific Name: Aloe maculata All.
while sensagent writes about A.saponaria
Not to be confused with Aloe maculata.
Well!
I admit, I trust neither -- Llifle is splendid but not always super correct with names. So I looked at desert-tropicals. They write
Scientific Name: Aloe maculata (Aiton) Haw
Synonym: (...) Aloe saponaria, (...)
At least sensagent explains the name:
The species name comes from the Latin sapo for soap; sap from the succulent leaves makes a sudsy foam in water, and can be used as a soap substitute.
So I've learned again something. Thanks!

Permanent names changes reminds me multiple exhumations and funerals. :D
Among 3 most common Aloe speciei using in natural medicine sap of A. saponaria isn't bitter comparing to A. vera and A. arborescens.
