Could you help me ID these 4 cacti? The last (blue) one was labeled Pilosocereus baumii, but I haven’t been able to find any information for a cactus by that name

Thank you so much. I looked them up just now and I think you may be right on all of them.

Pilosocereus baumii is an Altman's bastardization of Pilosocereus braunii, which is a synonym of Xiquexique (Pilosocereus) gounellei ssp zehntneri.

Ah, interesting. Is that as fishy as it sounds or is it something that growers do all the time?Minime8484 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 4:17 pm Pilosocereus baumii is an Altman's bastardization of Pilosocereus braunii, which is a synonym of Xiquexique (Pilosocereus) gounellei ssp zehntneri.

Darn autocorrectMinime8484 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 9:46 pmWho knows where Altman gets some of his names from?? But, in this case, I'd wager on someone not name-savvy just spelled it wrong on the assembly line, and the rest is history.

Xique-xique is the popular name of Pilosocereus gounellei (yes, it is now a scientific name too, but before that it was/has been the name people from the region of occurence of this plant - northeast Brazil - call it).
I can't imagine how to pronounce it in "latin" or English.
In Portuguese it sounds like "Scheek-scheek" and has no meaning other the name of this cactus.
By the way, my gounellei has different spination. Maybe this one is young. Maybe there are variations. Or maybe this is something else.

Scheek scheek…I like that!
Yes, mine is young. I’d love to see yours if you happen to have a pic. I read that they can get quite tall, which I wish I had known when I got it

Re: Please help with ID
I'm always reluctant to give a firm ID of young Coryphanthas, since the spination changes so much as they mature, central spines may develop that weren't present on the juvenile plant. That said, I lean more toward Coryphantha cornifera for the first one.

Pilosocereus gounellei is not very tall but instead it is multibranched.
Here are some pictures of this species in the habitat in northeast Brazil:

Thanks for that. I assumed the the "que" in xique would be pronounced similar to the Spanish "qué"!mmcavall wrote: ↑Tue Sep 06, 2022 1:52 pm Xique-xique is the popular name of Pilosocereus gounellei (yes, it is now a scientific name too, but before that it was/has been the name people from the region of occurence of this plant - northeast Brazil - call it).

Yeah maybe shiki-shiki is better than scheek-scheek
In Portuguese the "que" in the end of the many words sounds like "qui".
