Are there any recommendations for grow lamps? Is it even recommended to use them even just in winter? I am in NY 1 hr north of NYC. Also in winter I will put them in the basement it get really cold should I get heat mats or something? Thanks.
The 2 types I'm asking about:
Trichocereus pachanoi
Lophophora williamsii

Many people have a hard time finding a cool enough place to winter their cacti - unless it' drops below freezing down there, you don't need to provide heat. Light is good during the dormant period, but not required if you can keep the cacti dormant. See: http://www.cactus-art.biz/note-book/Dic ... r_rest.htm

Indoor lights will risk etiolation if the plants are well established already, unless you have some really beefy LEDs to throw at them, it's not really worth it imo.
Dark and cool is good to go.
