Uebelmannia

Post by Hanazono »

I harvested seeds of Uebelmannia buiningii yesterday.
Seeds are very small similar to those of strombocacts. I washed seeds by running and kept them in a fridge after dried.
I will sow seeds in November.

U. pectinifera were also pollinated but I am not sure the pollination worked well or not.

The photo is dried seeds.

I've grown Uebelmannia buiningii from seed a couple times

This year, I planted 2 batches early summer, and they grew fast.
I just did a couple grafts of the seedlings, some on Pereskiopsis, and some on larger stock

Hoping to have the rest of seedlings make it through winter

G'morning C and D,

Thanks for your comment.
I hope my seeds germinated well and seedlings also grew well.

Two Uebelmannia pectiniferas formed fruits and I harvested around 30 seeds in total yesterday.
The photo is one of them.

Hi Frank. Will you plant the seeds of the pectinifera fresh or store them for a year?
Nice plant by the way. I remember you saying you do not give it extra heat in winter?

G'morning Mike,
Will you plant the seeds of the pectinifera fresh or store them for a year?
I have kept seeds in a fridge. Seeds will be sown before Christmas.
I can see two more fruits. If I could harvest seeds from these fruits, they will be sown next year.
I remember you saying you do not give it extra heat in winter?
Yes you are correct. I do not use any heating facilities for my green houses.

I think cacti need cold winter which affects on spring flowering.
