Time to repot

Post by leland »

This Epiphyllum rubrocornatum has matured into a handsome plant. The fruits that last for weeks are a better garden feature than the flowers that only open for one night.

With time the minerals and organic matter wash out of the pots with every watering. It is better to prune, root prune, and repot with a mix rich in decomposed organic matter every couple years. I add some charcoal and pumice stone to help with the drainage and keep the hanging baskets light in weight. It will go in the same or smaller pot to help avoid root rot.
