CSSA videos

Post by DaveW »

The American Society has now released a couple of its past ZOOM talks on YouTube.

Their next ZOOM Talk on October 15th is in the link below. You have to use the link to preregister and receive the entry code by return email. It is open to viewing by non-members but requires pre-registration to keep out hackers. The last British Mammillaria Society ZOOM talk got hacked, therefore that's one reason for CSSA pre-registration. You obviously need to convert PDT (Pacific Daylight Time) into your own time zone as these talks are live and only occasionally recorded for later viewing. Many time converters on the Web if you just Google "PDT to your own time zone"

This Saturdays CSSA Zoom Talk. You need to convert PDT to your own time zone if needed. Just Google for a converter "PDT to (your own time zone)". These are live talks and not always recorded, therefore cannot originally be viewed at a different time. You do not have to be a CSSA member to view them.

However, some have been recorded and now put on YouTube and the links given for these if you missed them.

You need to pre-register to get the entry link back by email.

The CSSA has another ZOOM talk on Saturday November 12th which is open to non-members but have altered their clocks to Pacific Daylight Time. Therefore, you need to Google for an online converter to change PDT to your time zone if needs be. You need to pre-register to get the entry link and these talks are live so can only be viewed at the time stated unless they are eventually recorded.

Also note they have put some of the previous talks online if you click on the links. However, I find that they do not always follow-on in sequence with YouTube so you may have to go back to the series in the link below and click on the next one to see them in order.

Interesting The Burkholder YouTube links for his talk on Cactus anatomy. In the past we have usually referred to the leaf like stems of Epiphyllum and Schlumbergera as cladodes. However he points out cladodes are really flattened stems where the vascular bundle follow the epidermis round and in flat padded Opuntia’s are an oval shape. However in Epiphyllum’s and Schlumbergera the vascular bundles are located in a circular central core which does not follow the “wings”, therefore these are not cladodes but two ribbed stems.
