I just joined this forum and found it a good place for cactus lovers. I'm not very good at using many functions of the forum. I am learning.
Especially in terms of sending pictures, I tried many times before I succeeded.
I also tried to sow some of these slow plants, and now they seem to grow well.

It was sown in the spring of 2021. It is less than two years now. I planted this variety for the first time, but I haven't found any relevant information. They seem to grow slowly and are not the same size.

Seeds aren't widely available, so it makes sense for sowing commentary and results to be lacking. I haven't sown these myself yet (my second grafted plant died before I could pollinate :(), but these look to be a good size for their age compared to other slow Mammillaria I've sown.

Hi, Aztekium123!

Your photos of the seedling Ariocarpus are great to see; I have a number of these that look nearly the same in size and development, but a bit less pigmented. It is my first attempt to grow these from seed, and the comparison is very helpful. How long have these been growing? Do you have any growing tips to offer?

Again, excellent timing and photos. Thank you for sharing.

I planted it on the balcony at home. The sun is abundant, and it even needs to be blocked in summer.

I sowed ARIOCARPUS many years ago. As long as the plants were sown for one year, they were basically strong and rarely got sick. But they are afraid of the humid and hot weather in summer, and they are easy to rot. There is nothing terrible about others.

If so, it is time.

Their fastest variety, Ariocarpus agavoides, can blossom in about 5-6 years,

The slow variety, Ariocarpus fissuratus, is more than 10 years old.

It's too long for us humans, but it's just the beginning for them.

The plants I planted in the photo were sown in less than a year. These plants were sown in the spring of 2022.

The larger plants were sown in the spring of 2021.

If you want them to grow faster, there are two ways:

1. High temperature and high humidity environment, but pay attention to the wind circulation.

2. More water, more fertilizer. Suitable lighting.

This is also the method used in many plant factories. It will grow faster, but at the same time, they may not be very healthy. There will be some puffiness.

The above is only for plants growing from seeds. Except for grafted plants.

Ariocarpus kotschoubeyanus in the picture was sown more than ten years ago, probably in the autumn of 2011.

Now the growth is not very big, I put a small ruler for reference.

I agree and they will often stop growing for a year or more when switched to normal cactus growing environment

Hi, Aztek--

Your Turbinicarpus are so well grown and beautiful. The flowers are spectacular! I'm still amazed at the Ariocarpus that you grow, though.

Happy Spring to you as well,

Bret
