Ferocactus glaucescens?

Post by mikethecactusguy »

I picked this up a few weeks back from a local florist. I thought it was a Ferocactus glaucescens. Looking at it now the ribs and spines look nothing like a Blue Barrel. Any thoughts?

I think you are right, Mike.
Younger one looks nothing like the mature big Blue Barrel.

Hi All
Its the length of the spines that are different than blue barrels. I have some 6" an 8" and a 12" Blue barrel and the spines are all much shorter. I think Spence may be right with F. Echidne..The florist gets his plants from a grower in Fallbrook Ca. You never know what plants they have been cultivating for 5 years before they are up for sale.
