Succulent from Ohio State University Greenhouses

Post by geotrox »

Would anyone be able to assist with the identification of this succulent please?

The initial small cutting came from an unidentified plant in the desert house of the Ohio State University Biological Sciences Greenhouses.
At the time the cutting was taken, the mother plant was almost leafless, if not totally, at the time (if memory serves).
This cutting didn't leaf out for well over a year and half, but the stem still displayed some green tint.
It finally just recently displayed foliage for the first time this winter. A seemingly very tough and slow growing plant indeed!
I'd like to know what it is so I can give it optimal care.
I imagine that the narrow 'margined' leaf borders could be helpful in the identification?

Cheers,
George

Looks to be Euphorbia, but not sure on the species based on just those leaves. Happen to have a picture of the mother?

Good call on that. But, it would be Euphorbia ritchiei as Monadenium has been subsumed back into Euphorbia ;)

Thank you Bryan and Kane!
Unfortunately I don't have a pic of the mother. I'm not sure if it even still exists at the facility., given that they have since undergone renovations and reorganization.
Cheers,
George

That makes it all the better that you have preserved it! Perhaps one day it’s cutting will make it back to OSU :)
