Any experience with Mammilaria longimamma f.monstruosa

Post by Mrs.Green »

I saw an ad here in Norway for Mamm ( or Dolichotele if you prefer) longimamma f.monstrousa. I am not interested in a monstrous plant of the species but what I was wondering, is there a fair chance it will grow normal offsets? Reverting to normal growth isn’t that unusual in other species so I was hoping it would produce some normal offsets. If this is rather unlikely to happen, I don’t bother buying one.

Never seen a monstrose form and it is pure chance if you get a reversion. However if there is a normal tubercle they will usually produce a new plant from a tubercle graft However far easier to just grow a normal plant from seed from one of the Continental seed sellers.

Thank you DaveW 🙂 Here is a couple of links to photos of the monstrose form;

I would prefer an already ‘ready’ plant, rather than sowing.
