Pleiospilos nelii Royal Flush

Hi all, just going to drop a few pictures of my newly acquired P nelii Royal Flush, which may be of interest. The reason being that these mesembs are generally considered 'slow' - which they are in the sense that when they hibernate they don't seem to do anything and may look identical to what they looked like 4 months ago.

However, they are very much alive and, even though more or less invisible to our eyes, they are ticking along. Hard to notice on the normal P nelii, because the pigment doesn't change dramatically. However the Royal Flush lifts the veil.

What's most surprising to me is the amount of growth they achieved in the first 3 days, you can clearly see the sand line on the inner leaves which shows exactly their initial size. Day 1 was when I received them after being in a dark cold box for 2 weeks. They wasted no time.

They were probably grow in a well shaded green house

I noticed you refered to Pleiospilos as a whole. Does the same apply to P simulans? I think they are from the same general region of all year round rains in SA, but not sure if they have any particularities. My newly acquired ones are still small and they look puny and delicate compared to the bulky P nelii, so I am tempted to give them a drink but I don't want it to be their last!

Yeah Ireland is pretty humid.. They are under lights now and they seem thirsty so I will water sparingly through winter.

an annual,
old seeds would not germinate, so I haven't had them for many years now

That's a cool mix, I like the contrasting colorful flowers against the chunkiness of the leaves
