Post by Spikey1007 »

Not mealies this time, its snails they seem to love the new opuntia pads!!!

I have just put a ring ir slug reppleant around the affected plants, and of course rid them of the snails, is that all i can do? Or hire a song thrush.

Hi Spikey,I have always used copper strips or tape
strips around the base of the plant or copper tape around the pot.If you want to keep people and snails
out get some geese, they love snails and make great
guards, but can be a bit destructive

I bet the geese would do more damage than the slugs! Slugs will certainly damage potted cacti and succulents but don't seem to be a major problem. I guess even one bite could be a major problem! They are a menace to my succulents in the garden. It seems to be more a case of taking a little taste and then moving on, but that can do a lot of damage. They also seem to like flowers!
