I Got Brains AND Flowers

Post by cactuspolecat »

Inspired by Christer's post...I thought it timely that a few of them are in flower.

Here's a couple of small seedling noids these two are quite similar, most likely same species...

Steno. violaciflorus, now crispatus...

Steno. coptonogonus, the most recognisable of all Stenos...

Here's some flowerless brains too... some only small seedlings...

#1 S. zacatecasensis, #2 & #3 Steno. noids.

#4 S. phyllacanthus (S. tricuspidatus) #5 S. crispatus (S. xiphacanthus)...

#6 S. crispatus (S. lamellosus), #7 S. caespitosa.

Great Steno bloomers CP!!

I'm currently nursing my S. crispatus (S. lamellosus) back to health from an unfortunate incident...

Hi CP- My guess for your second no id would be zacatecasensis. The first no id looks different to me, maybe the form that used to be called "lancifer," God knows where that is now.

Hmmm, you could be right with the lancifer bit, though I don't know where it is either... I've looked under all my benches, and it's not there!

Seriously though I do seem to remember that name, I probably had one in my distant past... I must see if I have a picture somewhere. Side by side the first two seem to be the same species, the only real difference being in the length of the main spine. I've been thinking they might be S. kellerianus, they seem to match the pics I have, but I don't have a pic of the flower...

G'day daiv, I hope it hears you! because Spring appears to have been misplaced temporarily, (not an unusual phenomenon here) and has been replaced by Winter... it's colder now than it was mid winter!
Maybe spring will bounce back next week!

Dimales, glad you like the Stenos, by all means post your pictures and let's all see 'em, someone may be able to offer some help
