All plants, not just cacti will flower when conditions are right for them to do so. Therefore I would not worry unduly about your Mammillarias flowering, just enjoy the show.

This is true, I can count on at least a couple Mammillarias to be flowering on any given day. I think I mentioned before that my Cleistocactus winterii is continously producing flowers. I think it has had flowers on it every day for about two years now.

Hello Mark -Did you notice what it looked like right before it flowered? I have a whole bunch of black 'spots' on my Copper King one.

I looked at them with a magnifying glass & they look like they are either flower buds, or sprouts. Most of the sprouts I've seen on-line in picture gallerys are near or below the base, so that makes me think these are places where flowers will bud.

Well my plant's flowers came from the center of the plant not from the base.

I have a pot full of mammillaria vetula gracilis flowering all year long, even now while the temp is pretty low in my veranda.
