Hello, Mike,
It does look like M. mainiae regarding the number of spines and aspect of the plant but two things however bother me. M. mainiae has naked axil and it seems that your plant has some wool. The tips of the spines are usually dark and on the picture they are not. All this said, at the moment, I have no other name to propose

Hi,

It was ID elsewhere as johnstonii, and that certainly seems correct. Mike

I forgot about this link:

http://tucsoncactus.org/cgi-bin/MySQLdb ... n=Gallery5

This should help us get through all of Mike Mamms.

I must say the M. johnstonii on that page is a dead ringer for this one. Looks like there are large flowers in the future for you on this one.

Thanks, Daiv, that is quite a site. I have labels on almost all of them, so I only post them now when I get a new one. It is too bad there is not a superstore that has them all - I now get one when it is different, so I can't be too choosy about knowing what it is. Mike

I'm still working on the ones that aren't for sure yet, so if you beat me to it (because I'm slow) be sure and post the name that way I can just confirm your ID or move to a new one.
