Interesting figures

Post by daiv »

I was just looking at the stats for the month. I thought I'd share this with the group. Below are Cacti Genera from the most searched for on down the list. This is the top 32. I never would have thought Rhipsalis was so popular. I am not surprised by Echinocactus and Epiphyllum.

Rank Search Keyword(s)
1 rhipsalis
2 echinocactus
3 epiphyllum
4 frailea
5 selenicereus
6 gymnocalycium
7 hylocereus
8 ariocarpus
9 rebutia
10 coryphantha
11 astrophytum
12 parodia
13 melocactus
14 pereskia
15 echinopsis
16 pereskiopsis
17 acanthocereus
18 thelocactus
19 tephrocactus
20 ferocactus
21 copiapoa
22 schlumbergera
23 epithelantha
24 mammilaria
25 echinocereus
26 sclerocactus
27 grusonia
28 hatiora
29 stenocactus
30 stenocereus
31 epiphyllum
32 myrtillocactus
All Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are Cacti

I find really strange the ranking,

I thought astrophytum or mammillaria wiil be the most popular genus

Mammillaria it´s the 24th ,Who hasn´t any mammillaria

Mammillarias are really easy flowering plants ,and they bloom in diferent seasons, with a litle variety

Miguel,

It just shows you that even though they don't post, thousands of people are looking at this forum. Epi's and their kin are the most mysterious of cacti because they all look alike until they bloom, and then they are mostly named hybrids. My opinion has been well stated regarding these, but the obvious observation is that there is a lot of interest in them.

I don't have any mammillaris's.
I don't believe they would survive in my cold hardy garden  although I do admire them.

That's an interesting exercise Daiv. Like Miguel I would have thought Astrophytum or Mammillaria would be way out in front.

Yeah, I never would have guessed Rhipsalis to be out front. Here it is again for Jan-Mar:

Rank Search Keyword(s)
1 rhipsalis
2 echinocactus
3 opuntia
4 epiphyllum
5 parodia
6 selenicereus
7 pereskia
8 gymnocalycium
9 hylocereus
10 echinopsis
11 melocactus
12 astrophytum
13 ferocactus
14 ariocarpus
15 frailea
16 stenocactus
17 epithelantha
18 coryphantha
19 thelocactus
20 pereskiopsis
21 escobaria
22 rebutia
23 sclerocactus
24 copiapoa
25 pilosocereus
26 echinocereus
27 acanthocereus
28 myrtillocactus
29 mammilaria
30 tephrocactus

Opuntia muscled it's way up the list while Frailea lost some ground.
