Stenocereus griseus looks reasonable. Derrick's plant looks like it could be Polaskia chichipe. :P

Thanks Cactus Fan Dan,
Apologies for intruding on the thread too.....sorry, but this builds up my knowledge so much.
Only one question polaskia chichipe see http://www.f-lohmueller.de/cactus/Polas ... kia012.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and http://kakteen-sukkulente.jimdo.com/art ... -chichipe/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; seem to have the trademark skid-marks on the body.
I do have 3 of the ones with skid marks see here for one of them...

[with the red one]. and always considered them as chichipe's. This one and his cousin in another pot don't have any skid marks and take a deep reddish tint when they intend to grow. Could there be a different possibility as I see this one sold quite often....
Thanks
Derrick

The one marked 1 is definitely Polaskia chichipe. The other one you posted is a bit harder to tell since it's wet and the markings can become less apparent when they're wet. :P

Dear Dan
I think you are correct, a close look revealed some markings though faint, what caused the confusion in addition to the markings was the irregular shape. See this one part buried by stone, which was taken from the same place and looks similar except for the tint at the growing points
tinted polaskia???
tinted polaskia???

The shape here too is irregular in addition to the dark green...it could be a natural variation in polaskia
Thanks so much anyway
