Species Notes: Comment from Dave Ferguson -Associate Curator, Rio Grande Botanic Garden: O. humifusa usually has smaller rounder joints, shorter ovaries, smaller leaves (meaning the real leaves, not the joints) etc. when compared to O. macrorhiza. The later is found in sandy areas in southern Wisconsin. In fact O. macrorhiza is probably a lot more common in Wisconsin than is O. humifusa (which is usually on rock outcroppings). The two species are very closely related. |
