Well I decided on an alternative window in my house. It gets southwest light. It unfortunatly has a register over that window but I have directed the cool air away from the plants. It really was not an objection so much as I thought that if I put the plants near the window then the heat from the sun would naturally dry the soil out where the artificial light and the higher humidity levels inside the house in the midwest area may cause the rot by not drying out quickly enough. ...

Well I live in the midwest. I just got some tiny cacti and am going to repot them. But light seems to be a problem for me. I can get some southwest light through a few windows in my dining room.
