Re: A beginner's guide to repotting newly-purchased cacti
Very old plants may not recover roots so please clarify what you mean by larger/older A ~27 year old Easter Lilly and a ~20 year old Mammillaria. I wouldn't repot those Just curious- why is it better to not repot older cacti? Is it to prevent the root damage that they can't recover from? Or is it m...

Re: My wall of Air Plants
That looks very nice, what a clever idea to display them in a wall! They look so healthy and happy too. Love the flower spikes. I have a few too, but they're in a shell instead. And indoors.

Re: How to resize your photos BEFORE posting
That's awesome! I just joined earlier this week. This forum is a little slower at responding to my other posts than the other site I use, but I think that's because it's the weekend and we are all enjoying the nice weather. Regardless, from my lurking around I have seen that everyone is like you say...

When do I move them to soil?
Hello! How is everyone today? I have 2 stems that have put out growth. My question is how long do I wait to try and remove the growth to root it? Do I just slice it off of the stem? I included images of the stem babies in question. I imagine this is much like beheading. However the rosette I beheade...

Re: How to resize your photos BEFORE posting
Ah I see where I went wrong! I reduced the quality on one of the bigger versions of the photo, instead of the resized version. Thanks again!

Re: How to resize your photos BEFORE posting
Thanks both of you! You have to reduce the quality of the photo so that the resulting photo is smaller than 500kb. I have not checked the total file size, but I assumed reducing it to the height and width dimensions do that. I'll play around with it reducing the file size. First, is the picture a JP...

Re: Hello, this place looks interesting!
I live in NorCal! I had to keep an eye on the forecast too. We had a few nights where it froze. I keep all my outside succulents on a tray so that they are easy to bring in.
I did water a couple times over the winter though. Is it bad to water in winter?

Do you not water over winter? I'm just curious about growing succs in different areas of the US, and the different methods everyone has.

Re: Hello, this place looks interesting!
That sounds awesome. I do need to make it out to at least one. Unfortunately since my evening work is private tutoring getting off of work an hour early is just cancelling the entire session. Sounds tempting...I DO need a break hmm.....

Re: Growing Lithops and Other Difficult Mesembs
This is a great guide thank you! I'm further up in NorCal but the weather in the summer especially is similar enough. I accidentally killed my first lithops this past December when I watered in the winter...I misunderstood the cycle, and thought wrinkles on the side meant "thirsty." After ...

Re: How to resize your photos BEFORE posting
Hi! I've been trying to put up photos into my posts by resizing to the size suggested in this post. However, when I resize it to that size, or even smaller, the site tells me my photos are still too large to upload. I'm not sure why this message is popping up. The program I use to resize is just the...

Re: Hello, this place looks interesting!
Thanks to both of you! That sun must be treating your babies well hegar! We don't get quite as much sun here as in El Paso (you can blame San Francisco's fog rolling by us), but we do tend to get more than most places. Jellycacti, thanks for the links, I've been trying to find something like this ac...

Re: Lithops broken at roots ;(
Can't offer advice, but on another site I did see someone's rootless lithops had regrown roots by the method Aiko mentioned above. It's possible!
