"Mammillaria" -Contest Number 6 (Submissions Only)

Post by daiv »

Finally! I've got this contest under way! To get back on schedule, we'll shorten the time between contest 6 and 7.

This week's contest topic is from Cactuspolecat. His idea was a Mammillaria contest.

I asked if there were any particular rules he thought we should have, but he said as long as it is a Mammillaria, it counts. So you might do your favorite Mammillaria spines, clusters, flowers, etc. Be creative, just make sure it's a Mamm! I suppose that such genera as Cochemia, Mammilloydia, Escobaria, and the other formerly known as Mammillaria would be acceptible, but I would say that only if you don't have a good Mamm shot as classified by Anderson.

Post all your pictures for "Mammillaria" -Contest Number 6 in this thread.

Unusual Dates take note:
Contest will run from May 16 through May 30

You have Until May 23, 2006 to enter a picture in the contest. (Contest 7 will be on June 5 resuming the normal schedule.)

Voting will be from May 24 to May 30

There have been no changes to the Contest Rules, but please review this post for the contest rules: http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=888

Remember: Pictures should be no larger than 600 pixels in either height or width!

So bring on the Mamm.s and let's hope we don't have to ID them too!

Here is a primer for the contest. A standard among Mammillarias and a must-have for collectors of all levels. Mammillaria spinosissima

Good choice for a contest! Hard to pick a pic to submit. I think since everyone is doing flowers I'll try something different. This was one of the runners up as a choice for my submission to the Macro contest. A Mammillaria gracilis offset happily rooting and putting out some offsets of it's own. The main offset is about the size of a dime.

I'll take advantage of the "lumper" mentality and call this Baja favorite -Cochemia pondii, a Mamm although I really think they diserve to be separate!!

Plus, the hook spined mamms are really underappreciated :-)

Hi there,

Hard to chose from... I'm going to emphasize the fine spination of most Mammillarias. Here is Mammillaria rhodantha ssp. fera-rubra:

And here's my contribution - Mamm Hahniana,
a common but consistent flowerer year after year.
