"Cactus Clumps" -Contest Number 8 (Submissions Onl

Post by daiv »

For contest number 8, I've pulled from the "suggestion box" where cactusveda says cactus in bunches would be a fun subject.

Conditions of the Contest:

In addition, there was a minimum of 5 stems proposed and no flowers. For this contest, lets follow the minimum 5 stems, but if you plant is flowering that is OK. It is important not to focus on the flowers, however and the flowers should not take up most of the picture.

Clarification:
For this contest candidates are clumps that are _single_ plants that are multi-headed, via offsets or splitting. Perhaps better called clusters, which, on the show bench must be a single plant on a common root.

Post all your pictures for "Cactus Clumps" -Contest Number 8 in this thread.

Contest will run from June 25 through July 8

You have Until July 1, 2006 to enter a picture in the contest.

Voting will be from July 2 to July 8

Please review this post for the contest rules: http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=888

:!: Remember: Pictures should be no larger than 600 pixels in either height or width!

Let the Contest begin!

As usual, I'll kick the contest off with the first submission. Here is Echinocactus polycephalus near Death Valley, NP in Nevada. I thought this was perfect for clumps because the name 'polycehalus' actually means "many headed".

Ok, I've reveiwed the rules and haven't found anything that suggests I must own or be the one growing the plant. And this may still be disqualified because I certainly don't know if this started out as one plant or if it's several planted together. Still it's the most magnificent clump of Mammillaria geminispina I've ever seen and should be shared. Taken by me at the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix. I give you Mick Jagger in white.
