Anyone have any suggestions on how to get seed from these things to act a little bit better than planting small pebbles and gravel? Thanks so much...I have significant amount of seed from both

You should get something if you plant enough seed. If not, maybe they aren't even viable? Leaving them through a summer and a winter (preferably blowing about the in the desert, but just sitting in a pot if you have to) might help germination. Always be prepared to let them dry out and then try again when they weather is different. Cactus seeds will refuse to germinate if the conditions are wrong.
