All Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are Cacti
I'll get us started on this one with Grusonia invicta from my recent trip to Baja.
I checked plant after plant hoping to find one that was just a little early on blooming, but this is the closest I got. Many buds, but they all did a good job sychronizing their watches.

Tacinga palmadora in bloom . . .
Such a difficult choice to make for me as I am an Opuntia collector. Alast, I have chosen from one of my rarest (in the sense that it is difficult to find). Here is my Tacinga palmadora in bloom. This species hails from Brazil, but I found it at a local funeral home (the original plant has since been destroyed!) The flower of this Opuntioideae is a bit unusual in that in full sun it opens wide (flat across) and individual blooms will open-and-close several days in a row. My plant is only a few feet high, but the original was easily 15 feet high and 20 feet across.
